2017 FNQ Best Individual Home 1.26 million – 2 million

Located on a beachfront block just south of Port Douglas at Oak Beach, the stunning location is not the only impressive feature of this resort style home. Awarded the 2017 Master Builders Association Far North Queensland, Best Individual Home $1.26 million - $2 million the home is packed with bespoke features that make it a true stand out.

The client’s brief was for an ‘aged temple’ appearance and as a result the home has been constructed using a range of unique materials and finishes to create a stunning beachside residence that has both a luxurious yet rustic ‘ancient’ feel.

Setting the tone for the home beyond, hand carved timber entry doors imported from India, set into a dry stack rock wall, lead visitors through an external corridor of recycled timber frames, handcrafted by a local joiner to meet category 3 cyclone requirements. In the kitchen, cabinetry in an aged metal finish - custom made by Axolotl, combines with hand formed burnished concrete and a myriad of recycled timbers to create a warm and inviting ambience.

A raw, custom blend of solid undulated white, cement based render is featured extensively throughout the home, used on the ceiling, concrete formed robe shelving, and internal and external walls adding to the rustic, aged appearance of the home whilst also allowing the home blend harmoniously with its tropical beach surroundings.

Recycled teak flooring, imported from India by the client was instructed to be laid as if it was in an old temple and a hand-pitched ceiling also features recycled timber beams. Timber framed stacking doors allow the home to be fully opened up to enjoy the stunning coastal location.
